SayIt · version 1.0.0

Privacy policy

Effective date: [DATE] Applies to version: 1.0.0 Contact: wlodarskisoftware@gmail.com

In short

SayIt teaches English vocabulary and runs entirely on your phone.

There are no accounts, no sign-in and no server of ours. We have no technical means of identifying you, or even of counting how many people use the app.

Your learning progress and any words you add yourself are stored on your phone. We do not send them anywhere. They leave your phone only if you have Google backup switched on — and then they go to your Google account, not to us.

The app connects to the internet for one reason: so that Google Play can handle a Premium purchase. We describe that in detail below, including the part we do not control ourselves.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller under the GDPR is Dawid Włodarski Software Solutions, [ADDRESS], contact: wlodarskisoftware@gmail.com.

In practice, the only data that ever reaches us is what you send us yourself — an e-mail about a bug, for instance. The app transmits nothing to us, because we have no server that could receive it.

2. What this policy covers

The SayIt app (com.sayit.app) distributed through Google Play, version 1.0.0.

It does not cover the services your phone uses independently of us: the Google Play store, the speech synthesizer and Google backup. Those operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

3. What the app stores on your device

Everything below sits in the app's private directory, which under the Android security model other apps cannot reach.

Learning progress. For each word: mastery level, number of attempts, correct and incorrect answers, current streak, when it was last reviewed and when it is next due, and a short history of recent answers. Plus daily counters and which topic you selected.

Your own words. If you use that feature, the entries and translations you add are stored in a separate file on the same device.

Settings. The selected language course, whether you finished the introduction, reminder time, vibration, sound.

Premium status. Two facts only: whether Google Play confirmed a purchase, and when we last checked. This is what lets paid content keep working without a signal — for 14 days after the last confirmation. We store no payment details and no transaction identifiers.

What is not here: your name, e-mail address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, or any device or advertising identifier.

4. What leaves the device

Four things — and none of them reaches us.

4.1. Premium purchase (Google Play)

Google Play handles the payment in full. The app never sees your card, your bank details or your billing address — the payment sheet belongs to Google, not to us.

What comes back to the app is only: which product was bought, whether it is paid for, and a technical token used to confirm receipt of the purchase to Google. The token is used at that one moment and is not stored. Google gives us no information about you as a person.

Restoring a purchase means asking Google Play again what is attached to your Google account. It needs no account with us, because we do not have one. You will find it in the app settings and on the offer screen.

You cancel a subscription in your Google account settings, not in the app.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR — performance of a contract.

4.2. Diagnostics from Google's billing library

Honestly, about something we do not control: to accept payments we have to use the Google Play Billing library. Google bundles its own diagnostic component with it, which sends Google information about how the library itself is behaving. This is where the app's internet permission comes from.

We have no influence over what that component sends and no access to the data. It cannot be removed without giving up Google Play payments. We pass it nothing from your learning or from your own words — it has no contact with either.

Google's terms are set out in the Google Privacy Policy.

4.3. Google backup — if you switch it on yourself

The app uses the system's Android Auto Backup. If you have backup enabled, your learning progress, your own words and your settings are copied to your Google Drive and come back when you install SayIt on a new phone.

  • The backup goes to your Google account, not to the app's developer.
  • We have no access to it.
  • You turn it off in your Android system settings, not in the app.
  • Premium status is deliberately excluded from the backup — only Google Play decides who paid.

4.4. Speech synthesizer

When you tap to hear a word, we hand the text of that word to the speech synthesizer installed on your phone. That includes words you added yourself, if you ask for them to be read.

We do not choose that synthesizer — your system does. Some engines work entirely offline, others use the internet. You can check which in your phone's text-to-speech settings.

5. What the app does not do

  • No ads, and no advertising library of any kind.
  • No analytics. The published version of the app records and transmits no usage events at all.
  • No crash reporting. There is no Firebase, no Crashlytics, nothing similar.
  • No advertising or tracking identifiers.
  • No access to your location, contacts, photos or other apps.
  • No accounts, no sign-in, no registration.
  • No selling or sharing of data. There is nothing to sell.

6. Permissions, and where they come from

PermissionWhat for
Notificationsone daily review reminder — only if you turn it on
Billing (BILLING)Premium purchases through Google Play
Internet accesscontributed by the diagnostic component of Google's billing library (see 4.2)
Network state, wake lock, run at startup, foreground servicecontributed by Android WorkManager, the system library that makes sure the reminder fires at the right time

The bottom three do not come from our code but from the Google libraries we use. Learning itself works entirely without the internet.

7. How long data is kept, and how to delete it

Data stays on your device for as long as the app is installed.

Two ways to delete all of it:

  • Phone settings → Apps → SayIt → Storage → Clear data — removes progress, your own words and settings,
  • or simply uninstall the app.

If you have Google backup enabled, also delete the SayIt backup in your Google account settings — we have no access to it and cannot delete it for you.

Google Play keeps your purchase history under its own rules. That is outside our control.

8. Your rights

The GDPR gives you the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict its processing, port it and object to processing.

With SayIt you exercise those rights directly on the device: all the data is on your phone, you can view it in the app at any time and delete it as described above. You do not need to ask us — and frankly we could not help, because we do not hold the data.

If you believe we process data unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. In Poland that is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (uodo.gov.pl).

9. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data. It does not collect anyone's data.

10. Changes to this policy

If we add a feature that changes how data is processed, we will update this document before releasing it and change the date at the top. This version describes only what the app does today — no plans.
